Patience with special needs children

This past summer I was unable to find a teaching job in Austin so I applied to be a Teaching Assistant for a Special Education classroom. Fortunately I was able to get the job. School starts this Monday and I am a little nervous. I have never dealt with children with special needs before (i.e. mental retardation, autism etc.), but know it can be difficult at times. If you can, please pray that the Lord gives me both patience and an open heart to help these kids.

I really want to make a difference in these kids lives so any prayers would be appreciated. Thank you.

My friend Karin works at a special school as a teacher. You do indeed need a great amount of patience to work at such a place. I pray that the Lord leads you and gives you strength while you're there.

On another, unrelated note, your avatar looks SCARILY like I do in real life O_O Where's it from if I may ask?

As one who almost got into "special education" myself, I wish you luck. I believe God has a special place in his heart for special needs children. But don't underestimate them or you may be surprised. :)

Thank you all for your support and prayers. Today was the first day back to school and I thought things went fairly well. I think we have a great group of kids. Although the first day went well I will definitely keep praying for patience. I am sure I will need it throughout the year.

K. Ayato, I will most definitely think of you if I need some tips. ^_^
