I didn't see any other threads on the topic.
There was a shooting at Virginia Tech this morning which has so far, 32 dead, including the shooter. This is apparently the worst shooting in US history.

Prayers for the victims and their families.

There aren't words for this kind of scenario.
VA is my home state; I've known VA Tech alumni and students.
This is event cannot be spoken to; it cannot be spun, and it cannot be preached upon. This is tragedy at its most fundemental level.
My prayers are with the families of the dead.

My aunt works at VA Tech; thank God she's OK and safely home.
You have to wonder why someone would go off and shoot 32 people. I mean, I'm a huge believer in the idea that humans are fundamentally screwed up, but this is ridiculous.

...Such a waste of life and potential. Why can't the shooters ever have the common sense to start with themselves?
I hope that the families will be comforted.

I'll be praying for all those involved.

Actually, I've read that in many developed countries (such as Japan) where the murder rate is much lower than in the US, the suicide rate brings the total violent death rate up to equal with the US... That's because that's exactly what happens there... The psychopaths turn it on themselves rather than on others...
In the US, it's much easier to get the idea of "enemies" among your neighbors...
This... this whole VT thing is crazy at every angle... The shooting took place over 9 hours... 9 hours and it wasn't stopped!! No one was warned in that 9 hours!! And then Idiot Jack Thompson decides to blame it on games when he had no real news about it... Oh, and the LA stations haven't started covering it yet... Still running their soaps... Too busy focusing on ___ to do this, but once they realize their other pet topic, ___ _______, can be argued with this event, they'll realize they should cover it (Sorry, blanks were political) Stupid media... Stupid Jack Thompson... Stupid everything... This whole thing... Oh, and I'm sure the "americans are all violent hicks with guns" crowd from all over the world will speak up... Stats will come up how the US is the most dangerous place on earth... People will be exploiting these kids for years to come... Years and years... _______ _______ will likely make a movie about it, but not really about it, just exploiting their lives to fling mud... This...
...
...
I'm sorry... I don't want to downplay a tragedy at all... I'm just afraid of the flood that will come afterward... I'm sorry for everyone there... If anyone on CAA knew any of those students that were killed... I'm sorry... This is going to be bad for a long time...

Better themselves than that and everyone they know (or don't know) in a 3 block radius.

This is disgusting. I'm appalled and shocked and nauseous and horrified that this could happen in my home state. Virginia Tech is especially close to me because everyone in my area is so familiar with it; some of my good friends are going to VTech and I never want this to happen while they are there. The one friend I know who is there is safe, and I thank God for that.
It's going to be even more painful because I think Virginia is going to be scrutinized for this tragedy.

This is truly shocking. I still can't really believe what happened.
I'll pray for everyone.

I first heard about it from a customer at work and couldn't believe it...It's horrible and seems to be a recent recurring "trend" with others following in the footsteps of others... And usually, they say the reason behind the people "going psycho" is because of hard lives others give them... Things like that are why above all laws from God, one of them is "love one another". Hard to do sometimes, but look what it can cause? It's sad...

I heard this news from Nate in the chat. Once again another tragedy where they try to pin the blame on video games. Never mind the game, focus on the person who did it in the first place. What was he struggling with? How did he try to cope? Who did he hang out with? Yeesh. When will people get the hint that video games may lead up to such a tragedy as this, but they don't causethe guy to do such a thing.
Sorry, I just had to get that out. I'll be praying for the friends and families of the victims.

Did they blame video games on the shootings? I haven't heard anything about it yet. Actually, I heard that the shooter was allegedly having an argument with his girlfriend and just started shooting when people tried to intervene.

I wasn't referring to this shooting per se, but to Columbine.

I cried as I read the details. It's just so senseless and my heart breaks for those hurt and dead.
"Schools are supposed to be safe sanctuaries." [quoted in the news] As a former university student, I can only imagine the horror.
My God, My Lord, how awful the anguish and pain must be....may Your Spirit be with Virginia Tech, provide Thy Light for Your Comfort, Peace and Grace is needed more than ever.

I actually have a cousin that goes to school there. I'm glad to say that he's alive. I just hope he didn't see this.

My cousin acutually teaches in the same building where this took place. I thank the Lord that he wasn't secudualed to teach today. (We didn't know this until he called us though so my family and I were worried sick all afternoon.)
But it's likely some of his students were killed so he's very upset along with the rest of us.
And just think of what all of the families must be going through! It's hard to beleave humans can be so evil.
I'll definately pray for the families though! D:

I'm blank.
My heart, my feelings, everything is blank.
This is how I felt when 9/11 first happened.
***
It's going to take me a few days to have this all sink in, but it doesn't stop me from praying for the families of this...this...
Sometimes word's can't describe death.
My church will be praying too.
What hath the world wrought?
*takes a moment of silence*
Edit: Now it's sinking in. *sniff* I don't think I'm going to post anymore here tonight. I need some time alone.
Edit 2: Apparently the gunman was Asian. He got into a dispute with his girlfriend about her seeing another person. A student advisor came in to see what was happening. He then went into a maddening rage, shot her and the advisor, and then went off randomly killing or sparing anyone he saw.
*cries*

It's so hard to believe, someone just coming in there, murdering people like that.
This should not happen, to anyone, anywhere.

Jack Thompson was on Fox News early in the afternoon to talk about the tragedy. Fox News called him an "expert" on school shootings, never mind every school shooting case he's argued his attacks have been dismissed as ridiculous (that says more about Fox News than Jack though). Rumor has it he even feigned crying as he talked about how this kid had been trained by "murder simulators" such as Doom and Grand Theft Auto, and said something about betting that the gunman had Counterstrike installed on his computer.
In other words, the guy was mentally unbalanced, upset about his girlfriend, but because he has games in his dorm Jack Thompson is going to take this tragedy and ride it as far as he can. The man sickens me.

I woke up with this news and I was horribly shocked by it.

It's sad that this had to happen, and so soon after previous tragedies. I will be praying for everyone involved.
Fred Phelps is probably going to have something hateful to say about this, though.

I heard about it just recently (a couple hours ago)
dads all panicky and stuff like "omg we need gun safety courses" and all this other stuff that would not be very useful in such an event, tho it is still good knowledge to have.
Didn't read the whole article yet, but some things I heard earlier were:
gunman was a Chinese nationalist
and there were several, unattended, bomb threats throughout the past week
def will pray, this murder stuff is stupid <_<
btw: it says 33 dead now

I want to cry. I want to hurt..but...I don't. yes, I feel bad that this stuff keeps happening...I just wish i could feel it more...anyway, again. I will be praying.

You know, I don't want to start a political debate or anything, but I find it telling that Iran of all countries bothered to send a message of sympathy [although their president's previous actions make me doubt his sincerity], but all I've heard out of Europe is condemnation of the US because we don't have their highly restrictive gun laws. Interesting, no?
