Migraines/Pebbles

Postby Sheenar » Sun Mar 28, 2010 8:38 pm

This is going to be quick. I'm really tired and my head hurts.

I've struggled with migraines off and on for years. Usually, I don't get any if I get enough rest. But since I had my spinal tap and subsequent spinal fluid leak/blood patch, I've become a lot more sensitive to certain types of light (bright and flickering, computer screens after a while, headlights at night, etc.) and my migraines and headaches in general have become more frequent and I have them even with enough rest.
I saw my neurologist on Tuesday and he is trying me on Drug #1 to help get the headaches to stop (they are constant and do not go away and flare up with certain stimuli/triggers). In a month, if it doesn't work, we move on to Drug #2. And so on until we find something that works.
Pray for me. It's getting much harder to drive at night. I've started using yellow-tinted glasses at night to help reduce glare and it helps some, but not perfectly. All of my classes are at night, so this is a problem.

Also, my service dog Pebbles had an appointment with her orthopedic vet on Monday. He recommends total hip replacement surgery for her (she has developed hip displasia that medication is not managing anymore). I really do not want to put her through such an invasive procedure with such difficult rehab. But I want to do what is best for her. She is retiring and I think I'll let her adopter make this decision. But she'll have a good life either way, I think --she'll just have worsening osteoarthritis unless she has the surgery and will need increasing doses of medication that can hurt her liver and kidneys. She will supposedly (according to the vet) be pain-free after recovering from the surgery and not need medication anymore. Please pray for her as well and that the right decision for her can be reached.
Still waiting on paperwork from her adopter to be sent to Pebbles' school. The adopter is waiting on paperwork from her vet. Once her paperwork is sent in, the school has to interview her and approve her to adopt Pebbles. Then, they'll send me the retirement papers and I will send them in along with Pebbles' harness. Then she will go and live with her adopter. Such a long process...

After talking to her trainer, I have decided not to have the hip replacement surgery done on Pebbles. She is retiring and will still have a good, happy quality of life as a pet on her supplements and medication.
Thank you all for your prayers. :)

Just wanted to update to say that the person who wants to adopt Pebbles has been approved by CPL and I'll be receiving her retirement papers in the mail soon. I am so glad that Pebbles has found a great home to retire to.

Also, I am moving to another town nearby on May 7. I am getting an apartment with my cousin since it is no longer a good idea for me to live alone (I cannot take care of my home on my own and also because of my health and Pebbles' retirement--I have no one there in case something happens). I am in the process of finding a home for one of my cats (cousin can only handle one cat in the apartment and not two). Please be in prayer for the moving process (have to pack and do school assignments at the same time) as well as finding Cecil a good home.

Thank you all. :D

I am so happy to hear about Pebbles finding a great home to retire to. :)

Heavenly Father,

I come before you on behalf of Sheenar with humbleness. Lord you know her pain and I pray you give her courage and strength while she endures it. Lord I pray healing on her body and soul and that her emotional and mental health will also be well as her physical health struggles. Lord I pray for guidance and wisdom for her doctors about the migraines. I know Lord that its not clear on what will be done but I pray that you will give her guidance and peace while it goes on. May she strengthen in you and may her struggles be used for good.

In jesus name i ask all things,

Amen.

Pebbles is now officially retired from service. I sent her retirement papers and harness off to CPL yesterday. In 6 days, we have her retirement party at the Baptist Student Ministry and she will go to her new home.

I guess just pray for this transition period. Also pray for fundraising for Pebbles' successor Handsome. I have to raise $5,000 to cover his training costs. Fundraising is always stressful, but I have seen God provide in amazing ways before --I know He'll come through again.

Pebbles went to her new home on Friday. She's doing well --has begun making herself at home on the couch, enjoying her retirement.

Today, I had to take my cat Cecil to the local no-kill sanctuary. Since Pebbles has retired, I can no longer live alone. I am getting an apartment with my cousin --she told me she is not a cat person and I could only take one of my two cats with me. I tried for a month to find him a home, but with no success.
But what is cool is that I was encouraged to come visit him and keep in touch. If someone wants to adopt him, I'll get the chance to talk to them and help with the adoption process.

Losing both Cecil and Pebbles within a week of each other is pretty hard. I really, really miss them both.

I guess pray for the move on Friday (that people will come and help this weekend), for a job (I am searching again), and for my cousin and I to find a church home in the area.
